Kaffe Fassett and charity quilts/Droomdekentjes

Yvon kindly gave me permission to publish these pictures on my blog.

From 15th november 2008 tot 29th March 2009 there is a quilt exhibition in the Fries Museum in Leeuwarden in the North of the Netherlands. On that occassion The Quiltkabinet sent out 360 packages with Kaffe Fassett fabrics to quilters to make a small quilt. Later all those little quilts would be made into one huge quilt. This was a great succes. Many volunteer quilters have been busy assemling this quilt. The size became about 26 x 11 m
At the opening of the exhibition Kaffe Fassett himself helped hanging/pulling this enormous quilt at the Oldehove Tower in Leeuwarden. It was decided that after taking down the quilt would be donated to charity programs. The final decision was that it would be taken apart and made into small quilts for sick and traumatized children and donated to De Stichting de Regenboogboom Droomdekentjes This foundation does a lot of good work and many quilters in the Netherlands make Droomdekentjes (dream quilts) for this foundation.
If you click on here you can see all the volunteers taking apart the quilt and make it into smaller quilts again.
Ont the 25th January Kaffe Fassett will be there again to present the Droomdekentjes personally to the foundation "De Regenboogboom Droomdekentjes". I think that quilters are a special species don't you think so?
If you would like to see more pictures please visit my quilt friend Yvon's blog. She was there and took many photo's. You'll find them in the left side bar Oldenhove quilt.
